Lectio Divina
| Share

Lectio Divina is a traditional way of praying the Scriptures which involves studying, pondering, praying, listening and ultimately encountering the living Word of God so that the Word may penetrate our hearts and that we may grow in an intimate relationship with the Lord.

Lectio divina involves entering into a conversation with God and is very different than Bible study that is done for the sake of gaining information about God. Its aim is to nourish and deepen one’s relationship with God. Through the centuries Lectio Divina has been practiced in many different forms, by both groups and individuals.

If you're unfamiliar with the term "Lectio Divina" it sounds pretty serious right? Well it literally translates to "Sacred Reading". We should all read the Bible that way, shouldn't we?

“It is especially necessary that listening to the Word of God should become a life-giving encounter, in the ancient tradition of lectio divina, which draws from the biblical text the living Word which questions, directs and shapes our lives.”

-Pope John Paul II Novo Millennio Ineunte, 39.
